Recent Events
On 22nd April 2008, the trustees announced with great sadness that Trust Chairman Lilian Mina MBE had died after a six-month battle with cancer. Lilian had been the inspiration behind the Trust's success in first saving the Royal Hall and then raising £2.7 million to complete the restoration. She died just five days before the Royal Hall was due to be opened to the public.

Tribute to Lilian unveiled by Mayor of Harrogate

On Saturday 2nd May 2009, the Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor John Fox, unveiled a portrait of Lilian Mina MBE, the late chairman of the Royal Hall Restoration Trust in the foyer of the Royal Hall. The portrait was commissioned by the organisers of the Harrogate Antiques Fair in tribute to the central role played by Lilian in the restoration of the building. The ceremony was also attended by Mitzi Mina, Lilian's daughter.
In the six months since the Trust's last Newsletter, we have continued to make good progress. The two period bars in the North and South ambulatories have been installed and we are now moving on to the second of our major projects – developing the Heritage Lounge as a first class focal centre for the Royal Hall's new role as a Visitor and Heritage Centre.

Work on this challenging £8m restoration is well under way with the Lead Officer confident that the highest risk period has now passed.
HRH The Prince of Wales visit
The Trust's Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales, paid a visit to the Royal Hall on Thursday 13th July to see at first hand how the project was progressing. The Prince met a number of people associated with the project as well as a past and potential donors. His Royal Highness announced that he would himself be making a donation - his second - towards the restoration work. A the time of the Royal visit, The Trust's funds stood at £715,000 in the bank with a further £160,000 in pledges. The Trust was, therefore, over one third of its way to meeting the target needed to complete the restoration.

'Harrogate in Music & Song'
A 500 limited edition featuring 21 tracks with 'Harrogate' in the title. The earliest is from 1798 and the latest from 2000. The music and songs range from folk, classical, popular, cabaret, concert band, dance to barbershop. Cost is only £10.
Available from Tourist Information Centre, Royal Baths, Crescent Rd., Harrogate. All profits go to the Royal Hall Restoration Fund.
Limited Edition Royal Hall CD
A 500 Limited Edition CD has been produced featuring 11 Vintage Dance Bands from the 1930's performing 2 tracks each.
All the bands appeared at The Royal Hall in the 1930's. They are re-mastered tracks from Jack Hylton, Harry Roy, Nat Gonella, Billy Cotton, Jack Payne, Lew Stone, Joe Loss, Roy Fox, Ambrose, Henry Hall and Carroll Gibbons Bands. Cost only £10.
