The £8 million available for the first phase of the
restoration is sufficient to carry out the necessary structural
repairs; provide public access to the building and permit
public use for concerts, theatre, conferences, exhibitions
and so on.
However, the funds currently available will not be sufficient
to restore the Royal Hall to its full former glory, and the
Royal Hall Restoration Trust has been formed to help finance
those additional elements that are needed to return the building
to its original Matcham magnificence.
In particular, the Trust plans to fund the following items:
- full restoration of the decor in the main auditorium
and the ambulatory
- full refurbishment of the dressing rooms
- refurbishment of the entrance steps complete with
disabled access
- installation of an interpretative heritage trail throughout
the building
- restoration of period seating and soft furnishings
- restoration of a period bar
