The Royal Hall has been magnificently restored at a cost of £10.7 million. However, a few works still need to be completed to make the building a world-class performing and heritage venue. These additional works will cost approximately £50,000 and will enable the following:
- Star Dressing Room. The restoration works so far have included the provision of communal dressing rooms for performers. However, the Royal Hall still lacks a suitable dressing room for use by visiting “star” performers. A suitable location has been identified in the basement area but fitting out the room to an appropriate standard will cost about £10,000.
- Acoustic improvements to the stage. One of the problems of musical performances in the Royal Hall is that the layout of the building means that much of the sound generated on stage by musical and other performers disappear into the fly tower behind the proscenium arch. The remedy is to fit acoustic panels above and around the stage to reflect the sound into the auditorium. This will greatly improve the acoustic performance of the Royal Hall to the mutual benefit of performers and audience alike. The cost of the acoustic work is likely to be in the order
- Heritage Lounge. This room is an important part of the Heritage Trail which provides an illustrative description of the history and heritage of both the Royal Hall and Harrogate itself. Display facilities in the room are presently limited and a more up to date and interactive facility is estimated to cost a further £20,000
